Girl Talk: Are Women Really Better at Language?

This article is scientifically about girls learning language easier than boys. They did language tests on both boys and girls giving them words to either read or were read to them. Then they had to decide different things about two words, such as whether they rhymed or if they were spelled similar. They studied different parts of the brain between girls and boys. In the end they found that girls would learn language more easily because they can learn both orally and visually but boys would learn only one way.

My thoughts about this were that this did not make me happy as I am a boy but on the other hand I agree with the study. In my classes, girls tend to get the answers faster than the boys but not always. There are some smart men in the world especially in history. I would like to think that all boys are smarter than girls but I guess this study proves that theory wrong!

Ban Bully video game, activists say

Ban Bully video game, activists say

An anti-bullying committee wants to ban a video game because it is related to bullying.

Katie New and Robert Frenette who founded BullyingCanada.ca. They rote for all the victims: “on behalf of all the victims of bullying” sad New. On research they found out that violent video games can provoke bullying said New. A teacher went to other country to not sell this video game. The group asked its members to approach retailers.

As a teacher she said if I can to anything against bullying or violins it is good.

Just like high school

The game, an updated version of Bully released in 2006, features a 15-year-old student has to make him self a way in the new environment where there are cliques and bullies jump students in the halls. "This is an angst-filled game this is a simulation of the horrors high school there are no guns, no blood and no boosting of cars says Hilary Goldstein. You have to diplomacy or fighting, and you can even win kisses, from girls or boys. This is similar to teen TV drama. The bully’s will say it is fun but it instant fun to hurt other people. It would be help full to sell these games. The Canadian federation is trying to go with a British teacher group to not sell this video game. The Bully games were developed by Rock star Games of Vancouver, which also sells Grand Theft Auto.

I like this project because:

This will help to stop bullying a bit. I like it to because it will be a violent game less. So more people can under stand not to play violent games because you mite start bullying.

MISSILE MAYHEM

MISSILE MAYHEM

When I read this article I was a little surprised by the fact that the U.S. is going to have to blow up a satellite or it will crash into earth. And also the fact that China and Russia have proposed a declaration saying no space weapons is pretty suspicious. But I think they should send some people onto the station with a bomb and blow it up, then they wouldn’t be breaking any declarations or promises. But of course they would be polluting the air more with the explosion from the bomb so either way it is bad.

Threat to frog population prompts Vancouver exhibit

This is about the that a number of frog species will become extinct within the next ten years has prompted the Vancouver Aquarium to hold a special exhibit to highlight the threat.
As a result, up to 2,000 frog species are expected to disappear during our lifetime, Nightingale said.
In vancuber they are going to make a exibition of frogs ,they hope the exhibit will inform the public of the threat to the global frog population.

They will be talking about how frogs and human lives interact , what we can do, each one of us, not just the aquarium but each one of us in our normal lives , to make the Lower Mainland a little more frog friendly.

my opinion

I think this is really good becose i thinkpeople dont know the importans of the animals they think there are problems more important but frogs are also in danger becose uf auer polution so we really need to care abaut them becose it could be posible that in 20 years frogs deapierd

Do Microbes Make Snow?

They are saying in this article that microbes are the cause of snow. In fact, they are a key part to the man-made snow found at many ski resorts, helping snow form at lower temperatures. They have done research throughout different parts of the world and they found many different types of microes such as; Pseudomonas syringae which infects crops such as wheat and corn. They have found more than 2,00o different microbes in the air above Texas alone. It is clear that there are definitely microbes in the sir but where they are coming from they aren't.

I think this is a good thing because if they could be used to make snow, possibly in the future they could make fake rain to help grow crops for many places that need it if they are in a drought situation. Perhaps if they can make snow, they could make snow back in the arctic and help the wildlife that is dying because of the melting polar ice caps such as the polar bear.

gastric bypass: a life-saver? or a danger?

This article is informing about gastric bypass which is a major surgery, the final objective of it is loosing wheight! This surgery is basically taking out part of the stomach and the small intestine to make them smaller so the capacity of them is much less, this eventually makes people eat much less food because the stomach will be filled up in no time, after gastric bypass surgery hunger or eating to much will not be a problem. When surgery is done, patients lose about two-thirds of their excess weight within a year of surgery!
This surgery sounds like the perfect solution for over wheight problems doesent it? But that is not that simple it also has alot of risks, its not an easy surgery, after all its taking away a big part of your stomach and small intestine! The operation fails in 15 percent of cases, the list of possible complications includes blood clots in the lung, pneumonia, infection, leakage from the reshaped intestinal tract, and in extremely rare cases -death.

my opinion
I think this article is really, really interesting, I really believe its stupid for people to do this dangerous operation which includes taking away part of the stomach and which is really risky, i think people should stop thinking of the easy way out of over wheight problems and solve them with excersice, healthy eating, a nutrisionist etc, which includes alot of hard work but at the end its healthy and its what people should do.
As the article said, only people with severe severe over wheight problems should do this surgery, because its more dangerous and they have more risks of diseases by their overwheight than by the actual surgery, i think in this cases the surgery is good, but in other cases with people which could easily solve over wheight problems by exercise and healthy eating are too lazy and prefere doing surgery (the easy way out), i think that its a bad desicion that could cause so much health problems after!!! Although my opinion is that bypass surgery is a risky and extreme operation (I dont think its good reducing and taking away part of someones stomach) I also think its really good people are coming with new ideas to control over weight which is a huge problem now a days in so many places, and maybe with more study about it they could come to a solution with no risks!!! I liked alot this article ,i didnt know about this operation and I think its really interesting!

Genetic Cancer Link Between Humans And Dogs Discovered

The article that I read talks about dogs and humans. Recent studies say that they share the same genetic basis for some types of cancer.
A lot of types of cancer are caused because they are alterations in the order of chromosomes and the genes that they contain, and they saw that the same thing happens with dogs.
Certain cancers of the blood have the same abnormalities in dogs and humans, they think this is happening because of consecuences of genetic evolution that has ocurred in similar ways in dogs and humans.
Now that scientists discovered that the cancers are base on the same things, there can be more tests in dogs and later can be compared with humans.
According to some scientists, dogs get cancer spontaneously, and some breeds that are more "pure" so they stay with the same genetics from generation to generation, so this makes it easier to study genetic changes that are related to cancer.
"The human genome has 46 chromosomes and the dog genome contains 78 chromosomes. Sometimes, in the normal duplication process of cells, chromosomes can become rearranged or relocated. This rearrangement or relocation is called translocation. It can lead to a cell losing its normal function, becoming abnormal, and possibly developing into cancer."

I think that this discovery is great. Because more studies can be done with the fact that dogs may shar the same type of cancer as humans, so find a solution for it.
But for one side I think it would be good if scientists can do more testings with dogs and maybe get close to the cure of cancer, because a lot of people suffer a lot and die because of this, and I know how they suffer because I've been with a lot of kids that have cancer and it's really sad seeing them like that, because they are really small and they know that some day they are going to die, and it's really sad because you want to do something, like helping them with therapies, but it just makes me feel like doing more for them, so for that side it is ok.
But in the other side, if they test in dogs, then it would be really cruel too, because if they test it in dogs, then they
can also test in humans, I mean it can sound really bad and mean but animals also live and feel and have the right to live as everyone else, so I can have different points of view from this article.

The Smallest Pterodacty to Ever live

This may seem like a diversion from my space theme but to me dinosaurs are the next best thing. This dinosaur is one third dinosaur, one third bird, and one third mouse. It is a Pterodactyl... but not just any Pterodactyl, it is the smallest Pterodactyl to ever live (one third mouse). Normally Pterodactyl have a wing span of thirty three feet, but this Pterodactyl is twenty five centimetres ! That is the size of my head ! This tiny creature had no teeth therefore pointing to the fact that it was somewhat like a snake, this is my own guessing, and it is probably incorrect but it is my "hypothesis" or educated guess. This bird is so small that even if it were doubled to fifty centimetres it would still be the smallest dinosaur ever found. These people don't just call this bird a small Pterodactyl, they made a fancy name for it which is Nemicolopterus crypticus which means "hidden flying forest dweller" which is pretty specific for just two words. So now I have explained about this small animal but here is something that might just spoil it. When the fossil was found the bones were small and somehow they could tell that it was not fully grown. They do not know how much it could have grown. For all we know it could be a new born baby, then when it was an adult it could have been as big as a normal Pterodactyl. I do not know the chances that something like the could happen but it is just something to think about. I think that this article is interesting and I recommend it to all the dinosaur lovers out there.

Florida probes how small mishaps caused massive outages

This article is about Florida authorities investigating how a small fire and a switch failure at an electrical substation outside Miami triggered a power failure that affected millions of people. When a nuclear power plant sensed the disruption, it shut down. In turn, the state's power grid triggered rolling blackouts Tuesday across the state.
More than 2 million people lost power at the peak of the outages, but electricity quickly was restored to most parts of the state.
Authorities said no injuries were reported.
Florida Power & Light President Armando Olivera said a disconnect switch failed at 1:08 p.m. ET Tuesday at an automated substation west of Miami, and a piece of equipment that controls voltage caught fire about the same time. Neither failure by itself would have caused a widespread outage, he said. The affected region ranged from Miami to Tampa, throughout Orlando and east to Brevard County, home to Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center. See a map of the areas affected »
The substation trouble set off a sequence of events that within two to three minutes had knocked numerous power plants off-line -- including the Turkey Point nuclear power plant south of Miami.
Olivera said Turkey Point's two nuclear reactors and a natural gas-powered generation unit automatically shut down when the plant's systems detected a fluctuation in the power grid.
"In a fraction of a second, the demand was far greater than the power plants that were online generating electricity could handle," he said. "When you have that kind of imbalance, we have a system that kicks in and it starts turning people's lights off, essentially balancing the demand with what's available." Miami International Airport, which has emergency generators, reported fewer than a dozen delays and had normal electric service back on within half an hour.
Schools remained in session during the blackout, said Cmdr. Charles Hurley, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade school system's police department. And Delrish Moss, a county police spokesman, said no major traffic problems had been reported.
"Most of the calls that we're getting have to do with people being stuck in elevators and things of that nature, and people concerned about what is going on," Moss said.
The outage struck as a strong cold front and scattered thunderstorms passed through the region -- including one that prompted a tornado warning for Fort Lauderdale, the National Weather Service said.
Stan Johnson, a spokesman for the North American Electric Reliability Corp., said eight generating units were off-line across the region.

My Opinion

I think its quite crazy to see that just a small accident could cause such a huge ruckuss. It affected so many people this disaster because of what happpened. I would be scared 2 if that happened to me. I just hope it wont if I'm stuck in an elevator or something i can't get out of at the time of the accident.

Bill Gates sets up his own Linked In profile

This article is about Bill Gates helping out LinkedIn Corp.'s online professional network by setting up a profile on the service and posing a question to help draw more attention to a makeover of the Web site's front page. Microsoft late last year invested $240 million for a 1.6 percent stake in Palo Alto-based Facebook Inc., whose 66 million members make it the Internet's second largest social network behind News Corp.'s MySpace. Bill Gates is among Facebook members, although he reportedly stopped using the site recently because he was tired of sifting through the thousands of requests from requests from strangers who wanted to befriend him. Microsoft declined to comment Wednesday about Gates' status on Facebook. Meanwhile, LinkedIn will encourage its 19 million members to try out a new tool that will let them broadcast their daily activities to their connections.

My Opinion

I think that you shouldn't have to pay to be on sites which are almost like facebook and Myspace. I personnally think that people should try out new sites that are free instead of paying a fee on sites. People are on these sites to make new friends communicate with their family and send photoes and such and such.

Apple to reveal iPhone strategy for businesses, developers

This article is about Apple Inc. revealing software plans for its popular iPhone handset on March 6, including new features aimed at business and details on allowing outside developers to create applications for the device. A hit with consumers for its sleek design and web browsing capabilities, the iPhone has had a reputation for being less appropriate for business because of its lack of a physical keyboard and concerns its email programs lack the necessary security features and functionality. The iPhone so far runs only Apple software, though software made by outside developers can be accessed through the web. "There have been serious viruses on other mobile phones already, including some that silently spread from phone to phone over the cell network," he wrote. "As our phones become more powerful, these malicious programs will become more dangerous. And since the iPhone is the most advanced phone ever, it will be a highly visible target." The iPhone, which launched in the United States in June 2007 and has made its debut in a number of European countries, is still not available through a wireless carrier in Canada.
Some Canadians, however, have been able to purchase grey market versions of the device that are "unlocked" and thus free to run on Rogers' wireless network, which uses compatible technology.

My Opinion

I think that the Iphone is just like someother gagget that we don't really need in life. What purpose do we need it for? Sure, you can browse the internet, listen to music even call people, but really you could just buy a cellphone or an ipod for that kind of action. I also think that the internet in the Iphone is a target for viruses because who knows who can be watching you doing things on the internet. Some one can hack onto those things and watch you. Just like third party wedsites that are really not safe and could transmite a virus in your internet.

CRTC tells telemarketers not to fear do-not-call list

This article is about people who are complaining about getting inconvenient calls that they don't want. Companies that violate the list could be fined up to $15,000, while individuals could be fined up to $1,500. Consumers will have 14 days to file a complaint. The list is a list of phone numbers that are only important fot the people who you want to call you. In 2006, $4.1 billion was spent on telemarketing in Canada, generating $26.1 billion in sales and creating 155,000 jobs. Hill said hundreds of thousands of businesses in Canada engage in telemarketing annually.
In 1993, the CMA set up its own do not contact program, in which consumers register for free and CMA members risk being expelled from the organization if they do not comply.
But Hill said it is a not "comprehensive solution" and that is why the CMA urged the federal government to set up a national do-not-call list.

My Opinion

I would get frustrated to if I got calls that i didn't want. But I think that this list will help in some way because it will cut some of the calling numbers that you don't want to call you. I hope that they do make this likst because it will improve the situation.

Jumbo Jet No Longer Biofuel Virgin after Palm Oil Fuels Flight

This article is about about a 747-400 plane that traveled from London Heathrow Airport to Shiphol Airport in Amsterdam on a 40 minute flight burning a blend of 20 percent coconut and babassu oils mixed with regular petroleum-based jet fuel. Technicians from Virgin Atlantic, Boeing, GE Aviation (maker of the engine) and fuel provider Imperium Renewables now plan to analyze data collected during the flight to assess the engine's performance and pollution emissions. The Virgin Atlantic flight "is just to prove to industry that you can make fuel that has these cold-flow properties," (does not congeal at lower temperatures), says David Daggett, Boeing's technology leader for energy and emissions. As Boeing's Daggett says: "There are still a lot of hurdles to overcome, but 10 to 20 years is a reasonable time frame for production of biofuels from algae."

My opinion

Some may think "wow were putting about 20% organic gas fuels in the airplane so it will consume less toxic desel. But i dont think its going to help the planet that much because even if you would do this for a very long time, sure it would an impact but not a very great one like stop the path of global warming. But its a possibility of trying this new action and only time itself can say if it will help the environment or not.

Do Microbes Make Snow?

this article is about finding out if microbes make snow.Microbes may be responsible for snow—and rain for that matter. They are certainly involved in much of the man-made snow that ski resorts use to cover for Mother Nature's winter lapses.Microorganisms is bacteria that produces proteins in their cell walls that bind water, even when they are dead...as a result bacteria can help snow form at warm temperatures. Because that’s how you would know that some ski resorts add dead microbes to the mix in they're snow making machines. Now scientists discovered that such biological precipitation catalysts in natural snows such as Montana and Antarctica.in the article it says that microbiologist Brent Chirstner collected snow samples from 19 different sites. They found microbes in all of the samples, and the highest concentrations in the least remote areas.in an attempt at gauge weather those microbes were catalysts of their snowflake vessels, the team exposed them to heat as well as an enzyme in tears that punctures bacterial cell walls both of which reduce the ice forming ability of many microbesThan they put the particles into purified water and discovered that they were no longer to freeze water as affectively at warmer temperatures.

____________________________________________________
-my opinion
they’re saying that there’s a bacteria that’s causing it to snow in Texas and Florida where it never snowsI don't really know what they're talking about but it sounds really cool. What I mean is that I like what they're saying about it and the microbe thing with the snow it’s really cool.I like everything that has to do with snow, I love snow.
Its natural that it snows. But for it to snow in Florida its not really good because if they grow plants or oranges and anything else they grow is going to die because of the snow.

Life under Ice

Scienceist found a big block of ice that was floating in the ocean that had a bunch of sea creatures in the block of ice… there where living at the sea floor when I guess the water froze and the sea creatures died and froze but they don’t know why they died… I think that this is an amazing thing that they found and that this could explain why the earth is getting warmer and stuff you know I was amazed bye what they found here and that they should keep studying this they might tell people what happened a long time ago… and stuff so that they know what went wrong and stuff that’s why I think this thing is important.. This idea over all is really cool. Well that what I think about this project… and they should keep studying they sea life back then… and what they looked like and what the sea creatures today evolved from…

Do Microbes Make Snow?

They say that microbes make snow in some skiing hills they add dead microbes to there snow making machines… the microbes bind the water together to make snow.. So there saying that microbes make snow in a way but not natural way though. But this can be really use full because global warming is causing snow to melt so yeah ski hills can use this to make there snow and not go out of business.. I think that the idea of this is really cool because I love to snowboard. And yeah global warming is going to take that away so yeah I think that its really cool idea… and like people who like ski and snowboard for a living well like this idea too because with out no snow no skiing and snowboarding.. so yeah that’s why I think that this idea is a really cool idea..

Google launches website-building application

what this article is about
google launched a website building application that allows anyone too edit or create web sites

im thinking about this in 2 different ways.

i think that this is for people to have more fun on the internet,i dont really think its good because wut if people put wrong stuff on their websites,im not really gonna name anything you must know what im talking about,i think google is okay that way it is now.

the other way i look at is that the website they make if it can connect with their friends it would be a way to do it, or other stuf like that

News Bytes Of the Week—Robot Race to the Moon

The first one to get robot on the moon well win $20-million prize… deferent people are competing in this event people from different universities and stuff.. I think that this idea is really cool but then really stupid because the one who wins the prize well be hated by other people that worked on there robot for a long time well probably get mad and like hire a hit man to kill him or something… but yeah in a way its really cool but if you look at in bad way it’s a really stupid idea… well that’s what I think about it. And its hard work to get a robot in to space and it cost a lot to so yeah it might cost a lot so the loser well have no money.. so yeah there’s a lot of down sides to this thing.

Polar research ship returns to Europe after 'fantastic' 1½-year journey

Google launches website-building application

There is a new soft where on Google what allows multiple users to make there on website. This will help people to make there website whit out having a lots of problems whit it. It allows the user to get information from other sites and post it on to that page and you need no knowledge of HTML or web designing skills. They are literally adding an edit batten on to the web site. Google ethnologic is developed from Jot Spot a company a company Google acquired in October 2006. Jot spot allows the put on wikis that multiple users can do what they want on that site. They are bringing the wikis out of the land of the nerds and try to publish it for more people. There are three versions al free with ten GB with different where hens, and there is a fourth one that cost 50$ per year per user. It was relates when Google had a confers in Seattle. Google and Microsoft are computing agent’s echoer and Google broth some thing new out that makes Google better. Microsoft is entering in to the web and they are trying to by up yahoo for more then 40$ billion us.

I like this project:

Because they make it easer for you to make a web site. If you friends want to some thing on the site they can it is very help full.

Quebec ponders electronics recycling law

Quebec ponders electronics recycling law

The Quebec government is making new laws to recycle their electronic materials. They want to set up a recycling program for cells phones and MP3 players and others. Said environmentalists that there should be programs for that kind of things said David Suzuki. What you can repair you should because it is better for the environment. "It's crazy to develop a new product that is made to be thrown away." The companies should make more things that are ease to repair and it should hold longer to. Some companies have started it already to recycle there things and let them hold longer. They want to get this law as son as possible up.

I like this project because:

They try to help the environment.

NASA shows off rover armed with Canadian-made drill

NASA shows off rover armed with Canadian-made drill

They have made a new robot and to find water and it has a Canadian drill. This is one of the tow robots they want to talk about in there conversayshin. This robot was built by researchers at the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and tow Canadians included there work to this to. They hope that it gives them information to now how strong the drill has to be to dig in to lunar soil and rock because rover won’t go on the trip. It is hard to build a rover like this because it has to run on lo battery but has to be heavy enough to support drilling. This is the first step of understanding the potential for lunar resources and developing the knowledge needed to understand it better, said NASA's Bill Larson. It is distend to go one meter in the earth the regolith it was built by northern instituted. A camera is put in whit lacer light that allows the rover to see where it is drilling. Notec is best known for building the 3D laser camera. Later in 2008 it will have a partner that allows crushing the rock and heating it to get water out of it. They are testing other wheals rate now to at Exploration Conference in Denver.

I like about this project because:

They are searching for water so that would mean they can youse it in poor countries and help them to get more fresh water.

Google launches website-building application

Google launched a website building application that allows anyone too edit or create wed sites the reason for this is that so people can have more fun with the internet… as they say so agree with this so don’t I don’t really think that there should be such a thing because this can causes a lot of problems like bullying because if you allowed to edit so website you can out mean stuff about people to so that’s one of the problems that this thing could cause.. There service comes in there different services.. but over all I think that if there where no problems In the world this would be a really cool idea but with the problems in the world I don’t think this thing should even be there……. But that’s what I think of it but people well thing in a different way so yeah….

Polar research ship returns to Europe after 'fantastic' 1½-year journey

The ship was stuck in the high artic because it got stuck in the ice they had to wait tell I t melted before they can go home… while they where there they studied the ice and they could see that the climate was changing because of the different types of ice I don’t know how they do it but that’s what they said they where doing. I think that they should go back and study that ice more to tell people more people that global warming was real. It took them a 1 ½ to get back home because they froze in while they where studying the ice… its really cool that they can tell what’s happing to the climate bye looking at ice.

NASA shows off rover armed with Canadian-made drill

The Canadian-made drill is a small robot... It’s used to find water and drill dip in the gowned for rocks and minerals. It’s a really cool small robot that the Canadians came up with and that they should send one to the moon or other planets to find water and if there water there has to be life on the planet so that would be a really cool idea. But the reason there not sending it is because they don’t know if it well be able to go in to space I don’t know why but they said that is can with stand cold heat so I think It would be able to go in to space. This idea is a really good one because with this robot you would be able to find water and stuff so that’s why it’s a cool idea.

Neutron oddball

Neutron Oddball

In our galaxy we have lot’s of star and other things but the neutron star is the most weirdest out of all of them in a picture it shows that on its own the magnetic field lines surrounding the ultra dense stellar remnant. It is really weird looking from the picture in this magazine. The neutron star is 205 and 1000 light years away from earth. They are also studying 10 other stars that are also weird but now the Neutron star is the weirdest out of all of them. What do I think about this? I think who ever wrote this wrote it well and I think it is a very exciting topic.

robot race to the moon. - Reward-20 million dollars

This will be a rather amusing event for me to watch as i see through this so called 'scam'. Now, ten million dollars is not a lot of money dealing with rocket ships and moon data. This Google lunarX program are using people to get their information. They don't even have to pay for built of the ship so if there is a problem it doesn't effect them in any way. A satellite that does the exact same thing costs around... 300 million ! Google's spending-20 million. Percentage of things going wrong-0%. Things might go wrong with the builder but this is not the problem of Google now is it. If they were to build it and something went wrong it would be a waste of 300 million dollars! I could think of 300 million people that need that money (including me). A few million to New Orleans, i few million to the Afar people. These guys maybe be rocket scientist but obviously they have to economic skill. Sorry to say but Google... you finally did something wrong.

jumbojet biofuel good or disastrous

Airline flies jumbo jet powered by biofuel
When I read this article I was so happy that they have finally found a way to stop using gas for planes but then I read that it has more emissions of greenhouse gasses, which is very bad. Of course if some work was done on it, it could have good effects on the environment. But if they think they made it right and they didn’t, they would destroy the atmosphere or something else horrible like that. Of course if they do make it right it will be a huge step for man I mean actual artificial fuel. And if they can do it with planes they (of course) can do it with cars and any other gasoline run vehicles. So all I’m saying is that they should make sure the fuel is right before they use it.

wind replacing oil in texas and maybe in the the world?!

This article is informing us that:
The wind turbines that recently went up in Texas are twice as high as the Statue of Liberty, with blades that span as wide as the wingspan of a jumbo jet.
Texas, once the oil capital of North America, is rapidly turning into the capital of wind power. IN the last three years, Texas has reached the point that the electricity enough to supply power to one million homes, comes from wind turbines!!!!
Texans are even turning tapped-out oil fields into wind farms, oil is turning into an alternative energy!!!
Wind turbines were once a not considered form of electrical generation. But with the huge concern about greenhouse gases from coal-burning power plants, wind power is booming!!!!
Texas has been looking at oil and gas rigs for 100 years, and frankly, wind turbines look a little nicer,” said Jerry Patterson, the Texas land commissioner

My opinion:

I think this article is very important, i think these changes are really good, and they will make a really really positive and good change in the world!I think it would be great if wind turbines keep expanding to more cities and places; like the article said they would!

Why do i think that?
Because oil, gas and coil are the main forms of producing energy, all of this are extremely bad for the enviorment because they cause alot of pollution, and damage to people, also, we are basically finishing them up, and we need them and use them every day, I think its really good that people are finding other options and ways of replacing and not wasting oil, this options are also much healthier options for the people, the enviorment, the animals etc!!
I really hope wind turbines keep expanding!!! I thought this article was really interesting and really important!!

Cool Penguins

This article talks about one kind of damage that Global Warming is causing.
The penguins that live on Crozet Archipelago in the Indian Ocean are suffering and are leaving less because the water is getting warmer. This animals are use to live in really cold climates and they are adapt to this kind of environment, they get their food from fish living in these oceans and also have their babies there.
But as all animals, this penguins take care of their offsprings for a while when they are just born, they give them food and them they go and leave them there so the babies have to survive by themselves and get their food, but this can't happen if the climate is not adecuate for them, so this brings a lot of consecuences, like making the penguin population go down and if later on this keeps going then the life of teh penguins would be shortened and if this keeps going on the penguins can be extint as many other animals that are in danger because of global warming and many other issues.
So what scientists are doing is puttin electronic ID tags to the penguins to know where they are and to identificate each of them and see how long they live and if they go back to take care of their babies or to see how the population is growing or coming down.

My opinion: I like a lot all sea animals so this article makes me feel bad because it's letting me know that the life of this animals and many other is in danger and that it can only be stopped if people care enough about them so that they can change they habits and make global warmind don't act so fast, so knowing that there is people that cares about the life of the animals makes me feel better and also makes me want to do something about it, like telling other people that don't believe in Global Warming that there are a lot of things going on that are true and that can be prevented, not just for the animals but for everyone.

Global Warming, Up Close and Personal

This article is abaut global warning , haw peapole dont really know that this is sereaus .
You think you know climate change. You've seen An Inconvenient Truth. You've noticed the changing and warming weather patterns in your part of the world. You're beginning to suffer from acute ecoanxiety. But to really see global warming in action, you'd need to travel to the Arctic, where climate change is already kicking into high gear.
But some peapole really care abaut the gloval warming, and they are encouraging us to help.
To help raise awareness of the damage climate change is wreaking on the polar regions, next month Steger will be leading a team of six young adventurers on a 1,400-mile, 60-day-long dogsled expedition across Ellesmere Island, in the far Canadian Arctic.
my opinion
i think thet we souuld really think abaut the gloval warming , this is not only in the antartic , this is happening in all the world and this will affect you to , in mexico there is not inofe water so people are dying of thirst and you are waisting it.
also , dont use your car every time you need to go out .
we really need to help the world and do some thing about it , help rise mony etc ..

News Bytes Of the Week—Robot Race to the Moon

This article is about a contest where private companies are fighting for the Google Lunar X Prize. It is a $20 million dollar prize for the first privately owned spacraft that launches and lands on the moon. Then must rove on the lunar surface for at least 500 meters then transmit video and pictures back to Earth. If no one completes the mission by the year 2012, the prize is reduced to $15 million. The contest closes by the year 2014.

I think that this is a great idea because it shows that companies can make their own launch sites and robots in order to do this. Maybe then the Government will realize that other people are capable of doing the kinds of things. On the other hand I think that the $20 million could be used for something else like feeding starving children across the world instead of redoing something that has been done already.

The Other Side of the Zoo Fence

The other side of the zoo fence

This article is about the design of homes for gorillas, tigers, monkeys etc.

The role of a zoo designer is to think as much as possible about make each animal comfortable, happy, and active.

Must zoo visitors focus on the animals, not on the habitats and barriers that fence the animals’ in. but details like these have received extra attention since December, when a female Siberian tiger escaped her enclosure at the San Francisco zoo.

Opinion

I think that is berry important that the animal live comfortable in the zoo and that they fill protected and like if they where at home.

When I go to a zoo I don’t really like to see the animals in caches and watching them living like a fake life , for example they give then food in plates and stuff, the fun of watching in the zoos it’s the animal doing what they do in real life , catch its on food , survive of others depredators etc.

What I like about this project is that they are trying to do what all people what see them in their one habitat , caching his food etc..

New rubber mends itself when broken

This article is a about a created rubber band that mends itself when broken, it is made by a new “material B” that can stretch to several time its original length like regular rubber but once broken the pieces “self heal with out heat or press strong”

The healing scars are not visible, but the rubber will brake at the same point it heals for berry long time.

Time improves the healing but even after 15 minutes, a sample can be stretch up to about 200 percent without braking. It will reconnect up to 18 hours after is broken

Opinion

I think this article is really cool and that this discovery will help us a lot because there are a lot of stuff made out of rubber like toys and stuff and if it breaks its really hard to heal so almost every time it happened you have to buy a knew one now, if you buy stuff with this material it can last for ever.

new rubber mends itself when broken

This article is about french scientists creating a rubber that can mend itself when broken.
The rubber is called material B, and it can stretch alot more than its original length, and when breaks it can mend its self together. After 15 minutes it should be okay to stretch again.a sample can be stretched about 200 per cent without breaking.
The scientists sayd you can fel the mending of the ruber when u hold each side of the fractured rubber, and they say its a very strange feeling.
They say that it could be used for childrens toys. When the rubber is back together, the rubber is not visable there it was teared, and it will break again at the same place unless it heals for a long time. The cycle of breaking it and reparing it can be done alot of times said the researchers.

my opinion
i think that the rubber that can mend itself is really cool,i never thought they would come up with something like that in the world.i dont really like the urine part of making it i didnt expext to read it like that and that they would use anything like that.
but its really cool the rubber it self.
i like it.

HD DVD on life support as Wal-Mart backs Blu-ray

This article is about Wal-Mart getting rid of HD DVD and only going to sell Blue Ray Disk DVD's. People are saying that Blu-ray disk is better than HD DVD because its cheapper and has better image of the screen than what HD DVD has. When Wal-mart is going to sell Blue-ray disk it may be costly at first but then the prices are going to go down because its "Wal-Mart. Also "History tells us that as more people move to a new technology, prices typically go down,"

My Opinion: I think that Blu-ray disk is better than HD DVD because as the people say the image is clearer and better and its cheaper. This article caught my attention because maybe we should get rid of HD and start using the new technologie A.K.A. Blue-ray.

Megavoltage Ct Imaging Unlocks Fossil Mysteries

Megavoltage Ct Imaging Unlocks Fossil Mysteries

There is using novel radiotherapy technology cold helical tom therapy. The marriage of tow technology computerized tomography cal CT scanner and a radiotherapy linear accelerator James Welsh, associate professor of medical physics and human oncology at the University Of Wisconsin School Of Medicine and Public Health, and a group of colleagues have created images of fossil specimen of various types and ages.

They have Tom Therapy that is a Hi Art radio shin machine developed at the Universidad of Wisconsin–Madison. They have a new treat for cancer patients with intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). The CT component provides the place where the tumour is so the doctor knows each day how to do the treatment by this he a void killing health cells. The Hi Art is rotating a round the object or a human. It doesn’t harm healthy tissue and delivering narrow, potent and precise doses of radiation to tumours. That process takes about 15 to 25 minutes. "I was fortunate to be the first MD to ever treat a patient with this technology," Welsh say. "I suspect these are the world's first megavoltage CT images of rocks and fossils from such a unit."

The use of this new technology has shown them new treats for cancer. Tom Therapy should be expecting competitors. There are about only 30 medical facilities using this technology. This is expecting to change in Varian Medical System. Elate in Sweden offers these images to.

shirts replace ipod chargers??

This article is informing us that nanotech researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology are developing one shirt made of DuPont Kevlar fibers covered with zinc oxide nanowires designed to harness energy from your body's motion and convert it into enough juice to charge your iPod or cell phone!!!
This sounds pretty cool but theres a little problem:
be careful not to toss the shirt in the wash or get too sweaty: zinc oxide is sensitive to moisture, and the nanowires won't work well or at all if they are soaked and shorting out!
my opinion
I think this article is very cool, but I think if they selled this shirt i would probably not buy it because I don't think its necessary to charge your ipod or cell phone with a shirt if you can plug it in, i also think it would not be very nice not to be able to sweat or to wash your technology shirt because it would get ruined! But my opinion is that its really amazing that people found the technology to do this and that with this information they could create other stuff and could make more discoveries about the same subject! i liked alot this article and i would like to learn more about this because its amazing!!!!!

Why does my cell phone make screechy noises when I place it near my computer?

This article is about why does the cell phone make noise when you put it next to a computer?
Well most electronic devices act as a radio transmitter. An explanation for this is that your
computer unintentionally emits radio waves in the range of frequencies reserved for cell phone
communications, typically around 800 megahertz (MHz). If the signal coming from your computer is strong enough, your phone could mistake it for a cell phone transmission. Computer noise, however, does not contain the sort of information that your phone's onboard computer is programmed to expect. Thus, it responds to the resulting cascade of communications failures by creating a series of audible alerts. Also a cell phone has an audio amplifier that drives its speaker, and the radio waves emitted by the computer may induce currents in the wiring of the amplifier itself. The resulting audio output then would reflect what your computer is doing at that moment but would sound to a person like random squeaks and squawks. The only way to prevent EMI is to keep spurious radio waves under wraps. I think this article is very interesting because this kind of happened to me. I had my cell phone with me and I put it next to the computer and it started to make these weird sounds and I thought my cell phone was busted. Turns out it was emmiting EMI from both the cell phone and the cell phone. This article surprised me and made me very interested. It made me learn why you get these noises when you put a cell phone next to a computer.

nasa makes grave mistake

NASA MAKES A GRAVE MISTAKE

When I read this article I was astounded by the fact that they could look over the tiny detail of a divot by a handhold by the airlock. And even when they know that the smallest rip or scratch could really make a guy sick or dead. And when they are asking for 2BILLION DOLLARS from the government. And when they say that they didn’t have time to fix the divot beside the airlock I mean really people could DIE. And also they have a joint clogged with metal shavings I mean they should really check these things before launch. And it’s ridiculous that they are going take four spacewalks before it will be fully clean. All I’m saying is that they should really check these things before they launch.

Pulstar

Pulstar

This article is about this brand new spark plug

They say that they haven’t change spark plugs for the last 100 years. They thought that they should make a new one that is a lot more powerful and works more efficient. The spark is about 10 times much stronger then the older ones, it has more torque, more horsepower and it doesn’t take as much gas. They look the same on the outside but on the inside it is much different. They say that it won’t harm your engine a bit and if it does you have manufacturer’s warranty. And if you don’t like it you can get your money back guaranteed. I think this is probably a great idea because they say it is fuel efficient so that could save gas a lot and if gives you a lot more horsepower.

Scaled-Down Solar System Found 5,000 Light-Years Away

In this article astronomers have discovered a pair of planets around a star 5,000 light-years away that resemble smaller versions of Jupiter and Saturn, hinting that solar systems like ours may be unexpectedly common.
They
discovered the planets over two weeks period in April of 2006 .

my opinion !!!
I think this is really cool and they should search more about this because maybe they can find life in other planets and a planet really similar as the earth with life and stuff i really like this article ,I think is really interesting life and planets and stars etc..

Scaled-Down Solar System Found 5,000 Light-Years Away

They have found another solar system 5,000 light-years away, this one quite similar to ours. They found it with en effect called, "gravitational microlensing" where the gravity of a nearer star magnifies the light 500-fold from a more distant one. The solar syatem contains two planets that are similar to Jupiter and Saturn. This new discovery tells us that the possibility there are solar systems like ours is more common. The ratios of the planets in size and their orbiting distances as compared to the star also are like ours.

This article is very interesting because it shows that we now have the technology to be able to see further into the universe and take pictures of other solar systems. It also shows that with this new technology we can perhaps we reach these planets and learn more about them. Since there are other solar systems out there like ours brings two questions to my mind. Could we live on other planets outside our solar system? Is there other life out there somewhere?

Hearing Whales

In the article, I read about an study that is being done in whales to see how they communicate with each other and see with which part of their body they hear. Also how underwater sonar affect animals, because their way of listening is different from the ones in humans so it is a good that scientists research on it.
There is some radar technology that is use by ships to research for the underwater objects, so this is the underwater sonar that might affect some or all of the animals that live underwater.

When whales are hunting their food really deep underwater, they produce sounds that bounce and then they return back to the whales, and this is what helps them to "see" how their prey looks like when its really dark in the night.
So researches in San Diego did some kind of X-Ray to some whales that were dead so that they could have a better understanding of how they hear, what they did was made a computer model from a head of a whale and saw the process of how the sound moves and travels around the head from the whales.

My opinion in this article is that it's a really good idea to make tests in how things that people do can affect a lot of the animals not only in the sea but anywhere. Because sometimes for our own good, we do things not thinking about others, like the underwater sonar can affect in the way whales listen, and this can be a really big problem because without listening it is going to be harder for them to hunt, and to be protected from other kind of animals that can hurt them.
And also by making this research we could know how whales listen and to understand better the way they live and how they communicate. I find this really interesting because sometimes we can think that we are smarter than all the other animals and that we are the only ones that communicate with each other, but is not only us that have a way of communicating, so it will be awesome if we can know how the other animals live and communicate with each other and see how they live.

Growing Up to Prozac: Drug makes new neurons mature faster

The article is about a medicine that is an antidepressant, but that makes the brain have changes in different ways, like it makes the new born cells from the brain to mature earlier and faster.
This may have consecuences because if the cells mature before then they will die before so then it makes your brain to loose more and more cells every time that you take the medicine.
This medicine has been used since 1980, and this study was made with mice, they were given the medicine and the mice that were taking it, had more branch-like extensions in their neurons that are important for connecting those neurons with a lot of other ones, so in one way it helps but at the same time it’s making some kind of damage to the brain. But the thing is, that the medicine works when the brain cells mature, so that's what makes people not to be depressed.

I think that if people really need this medicine to not be depressed and it helps them is ok, but if later it becomes a drug for them, then people should think twice when they get it, because then it can be dangerous and can help them not to be depressed but later they would end up being addcits and maybe having brain cells problems, because they can grow slower and will die before, so there are a lot of things that can affect the brain with this type of medicine that at the end it is a drug that makes addict almost all the people that have it.

diet = fattening???

this article is about a new and really important discovery, scientists experimented and discovered that the "diet" products just like diet coke, fake "diet" sugar and others that contain artificial sweeteners actually damage more and make people gain more weight than if they where consuming natural products or products with natural sweeteners, this means that artificial sweeteners make it harder to control your weight!!!!!

how did they find out about this?
Psychologists at Purdue University's Ingestive Behavior Research Center report that nine rats given yogurt sweetened with no-cal saccharin (artificial) ended up eating more and gaining more weight and body fat than eight fellow rats given yogurt containing plain old glucose (natural) (a simple sugar with about 15 calories per teaspoon, the same as table sugar).

Study authors Susan Swithers and Terry Davidson speculate the reason is that the faux sweetener messes with the brain, fooling it into revving up the body's metabolism in anticipation of a never-to-come calorie load. ****"The data clearly indicate that consuming a food sweetened with no-calorie saccharin can lead to greater body-weight gain and a diposity [fat] than would consuming the same food sweetened with a higher-calorie sugar,"

my opinion
I think this article is very interesting and important. I think people should not believe everything the companies such as coke and other say, because sometimes they just say it to sell more. I also think that its always better for people to consume the most natural products we can and the least artificial (they have to many chemicals we are not aware of and some can damage us, and we don't even notice it, because we are not informed) I think this article is really important and interesting and people should pay more attention to what they are consuming and not believe 100% what commercials or companies tell us, and to always try to go for the less artificial option!!

Powering Your Cell Phone Could Be a Walk in the Park

Powering Your Cell Phone Could Be a Walk in the Park

Exercising may help more then your muscles, it could create energy. By walking, jogging and running will power up a device on your thy and you will be giving energy to it. A team of researchers at the Simon Fraser University (S.F.U.) Locomotion Laboratory in Burnaby, British Columbia, are studying the amount of energy that can be generated by 3.5-pound (1.6-kilogram). How it will work? A steel knee braces worn while walking or running. Wearing a brace strapped on each leg, generating about five watts of electricity for each person during a new experiment. to run 10 cell phones concurrently and twice that needed to keep a computer running (something useful in developing regions of Africa where electricity is scarce). It produces 54 watts of power by running in place. When I read this I thought it was a really cool idea and it could help all over the world and it does not pollute.

European Space Lab

As everyone probaly know by now, I am facinated at everything about space. This tops my interedt though. The begining of a space lab. It is a exciting event for me as this could lead to many space discoveries. If what is happening is unclear, this is pretty much what it is. It is a science lab in space. This will be done by robotic arm. astranauts in space suits will perform this construction. There will be two autronauts working on this at a time. The name of this lab will be columbus. The article i am reading is pretty exact. It started at 9 : 13 am, I was probaly in bed at that time. So clueless that something so great had started. This will contribute too many things in which I would like to read about.

small as a sparrow

SMALL AS A SPARROW

When I red this article I was astonished by the fact that a recently found pterodactyl (yes the huge things that fly) could be as small as a sparrow. This is shocking because other digs came up with huge birds that where almost ten times bigger than these. This of course leads to the question “how many more small dinosaurs are their?” Also this pterodactyl had no teeth curved toes and a wingspan of just 25cm. But some of the bones on this bird where not fully grown so it could have been in its early years when it died. So when they say it was not a hatchling or newborn they may not be completely right yes it may have been in its early years but it is not newborn. And of course they have only found one of these so it may just be a diseased or sick one. It is also strange that they live in the canopy because most pterodactyls where supposed to live in mountains.

Netflix digs HD DVD grave deeper

Netflix has decided to go with Blu-ray disc format only. They will begin fazing out hd-dvd discs by no longer buying them and only buying in Blu-ray format. The stock should be fazed-out by the end of the year. Luckily in Canada, Zip.ca has not decided to go that way and keep both formats as the rental preference of customers is about 50-50.

I do not support this idea because blu-ray is not much more different than hd-dvd. Most people have dvd players in their homes so now consumers have to have an additional expense by buying new players so they don't want to have to go out and buy new players for no reason. Also, both formats are great inventions then again so was the VHS player. VHS players actually were better in my opinion because you didn't have to deal with scratched discs. There will always be something "better" invented. Betamax, VHS, DVD, Blu-ray or records, 8-track, cassettes, then back to CD's, then on to digital music. There will alwyas be a war, someone's got to win.

Chewing Gum helps post surgery

A doctor came up with an idea that chewing gum after colon surgery may help you recover faster. It is believed that the chewing gum helped the people who had colon surgery heal fast then the people. Who didn’t chew gum while they where in the hospital.
The way it works was that the chewing gum triggers the hormones in the intestine to release faster. That causes it to heal faster.

What I thought about it

I thought that it wouldn’t help at all because it didn’t make sense that chewing gum would help you heal. And I thought that I was really stupid to believe that chewing would help you heal faster.

Affairs of the Lips: Why We Kiss

A kiss triggers a cascade of neural messages and chemicals that transmit tactile sensations, sexual excitement, feelings of closeness, motivation and even euphoria.

Kisses can convey important information about the status and future of a relationship. At the extreme, a bad first kiss can abruptly curtail a couple’s future.

Kissing may have evolved from primate mothers’ practice of chewing food for their young and then feeding them mouth-to-mouth. Some scientists theorize that kissing is crucial to the evolutionary process of mate selection.
___________________________________________________________________

my opinion

i think that all of the bove is really true, and that kssing is healthy..until people get over excited, hehe.
not all kisses are the same, theres alot of differnt kind but it would to long of a list to write it all down soo..on to it.
kisses can also mean alot of different things. Some people dont really take kissing seriously when its really supposed to be handled well.i think u have to find that 1 special person.

"Kissing may even reveal the extent to which a partner is willing to commit to raising children, a central issue in long-term relationships and crucial to the survival of our species."

i think this could be true sometimes because kissing is very atractive and most people like doing it and it could lead on to something serious.

What i think pheramore is that its a type of thing athat travels through your body or something and can tell when your kissing someone.
i really do think kissing is healthy.

self powered nanotech

Self Powered Technology

Today we are beginning to create extremely small energy harvesters that can supply electrical power to the tiny world of scale devices where things are measured in billionths of a meter. They call these power plants generation. The ability to make power on a minuscule. They have been working on technology since 1990 when this type of technology interested researchers. They experiment in Massachusetts institute of technology’s media. They got these ideas from writs watches. The self powered technology is the size of a blood cell. What do I think of this? I think it is kind of a cool idea do be doing, maybe they should of started sooner because the researchers did not recognize it until 1990 which I do not like.

mystery illnes attacks bats!!!

this document is about this new illness (white nose syndrome) that it is attacking bats, before, scientists saw this same illness in bees, now it is found in bats, this is caused by a mysterious aliment!
white fungus was found around many of the affected bats, the plague claimed 13,500 (90 percent) of 15,000 bats over two years, and since last January has spread from four caves west of Albany, New York, to four other sites including, now Vermont.
After research they discovered that the syndrome kills the bats while they hibernate (taking away their fat reserve months ahead of schedule)!!!
specialist Alan Hicks called the illness "the gravest threat to bats [we] have ever seen."
my opinion!
i think this is very interesting and important, and i think their should be more research and scientist should try to find some way to avoid this disease, because even though i really dont like bats, their still animals , and something really wierd is happening and its changing everything because bats are important in the food chain and this venenous aliment can go from bats to another animal, and it could keep going on, because this had already happened in bees! i think this could be a very very dangerous and scientist should find the cause and find a way to stop this!!!!!! i think this article was veri interesting and i would like to learn more abou this!!!!!

atlantis two close shaves

ATLANTIS… TWO CLOSE SHAVES

When I read this article I was appalled by the fact that workers at NASA (yes the place that makes space ships) had forgotten to straighten out one hose. Now if the shuttle was sent into space with that hose bent something terrible would happen. And also they forgot to check a malfunctioning fuel connector that links the gauge to the shuttle. Now if they were to go into space without enough fuel then they would not be able to re-enter without more fuel. Therefore they would be stuck up in space until they died. So NASA should really take more care in their work because if they don’t then they will find all kinds of problems with their ships like: crashes, impossible re-entry’s, death, explosions and horrible injuries.

new languages rapidly spring from old ones!!

Scientists for decades have clashed over whether evolution takes place gradually or is driven by short spurts of intense change.
In the latest chapter in this debate, researchers report in Science this week that it appears that when new languages spin-off from older ones, there is an initial introductory burst of alterations to vocabulary. Then, the language tends to settle and accumulate gradual changes over a long period of time. The team believes this discrete evolutionary pattern occurs when a social group tries to forge a separate identity.

"We treat the words that different languages use almost identically to the way we use genes: … The more divergent two species are, the less their genes have in common, just as the more divergent two languages are, the less their words have in common."

The team focused on three of the world's major language families in its study: Bantu (Swahili, Zulu, Ngumba, for example), Indo-European (English, Latin, Greek, Sanskrit) and Austronesian (South Pacific and Indian Ocean languages such as Taglaog or Seediq). They constructed genealogical trees—this time the trees traced existing languages back to their common roots; the length of a "branch" indicated the extent of word replacement that took place as each old language morphed (possibly with new languages splitting off) into its current form.

offers a few examples of these sorts of events, such as the sudden emergence of American English when Noah Webster published his American Dictionary of the English Language in 1828. More recently, he says, black American English could fit the bill as an emerging idiom.
"It's plausible to think of black American English as having diverged from standard English as a way of establishing a distinct identity," he says. "I think everybody's impression is those differences [between the two languages] are greater than one would expect for people who live in the same area."

my opinion
i think this article was a little confusing to understand, but i think it is very truth, because after reading the article it makes alot of sense for me.
i think to understand this article you should read it two or three times because its a little bit confusing, but after understanding it is very interesting and it makes sense!!!!

Heart Revival

The experiment was about rats that have been dead not more than 18 hours, and what happened was that the scientists took the hearts from the rats and but them in a beaker, there they cleaned them with detergent and later on they injected new living cells from rats that were just borned. Finally, 8 days later the hearts started pumping again. This is very helpful, because instead of needing a new heart from another "rat" in this case, the rats could still have their own hearts and it will be easier that the body accepted it better than another heart from another "rat".

I think that if scientists try this out more times, it can be a way of saving many people's life, because it is giving a better way of having more opportunity of life if the heart of a person stops working, and it can have good results or maybe bad ones, but I think because of all the advantages that science is having today this can be possible and I agree with it, but before it is better to have different tests with different animals also, because maybe it can work with a rat, but a rat's body and system is different from all the other animal & human systems, so it just takes time and more testing to see what are the results.

New Zealand: ‘No Tears’ Onions

This article says that they have developed a new type of onion that when it is sliced it will not make people cry. They do this by "turning off" the gene that produces an enzyme that makes people cry when they cut into it.

I would think that's great but when I slice an onion I do not cry at all but if these onions have hormones that make cells less powerful it would probably make the onion taste different. That means that people should know what's happening to the onion. Generally when they change something in one way, it affects it in another way. So they shouldn't "turn off" the gene because what makes you cry is probably the thing that makes it taste good.

Proof New Zealand is the Best, invention of onions that don't make you cry

I always knew New Zealand would do something important soon. I wasn't looking for something of this magnitude but still, it is an important invention if you ask me. How many people are cutting an onion and cry, then your mum comes in the room and says, "are you crying?!" With New Zealand's beautiful invention that will never happen again. Now i would explain but the research New Zealand has put into this invention surpasses my knowledge. Unfortunatly this onion will not be in stores for a while yet, more like a decade, but when it does i will be there, not because it doesn't make you cry, because i am proud it comes from New Zealand.

virtual video games educational

VIRTUAL VIDEO GAME EDUCATIONAL? NASA SAYS SO.

When I read this article I agreed completely with NASA’s proposal to make a MMO that simulates how different scientific and mathematic problems work. But of course there are people who will try to abuse and take advantage of this. And of course this will be better than just reading a book or getting taught by a teacher. It will also help with as it says in the article building teams, solving problems and cleaning and handling equipment. Because the reality is that virtual games are the next big thing. In say 10 years time, maybe less the big game system on the market will be a virtual head set. The Wii is an example of this, just imagine a system that actually reads and responds to your actions. I a few years people will say “hey you wanna come over and play my new system it’s virtual”. But I think that it could be a new revolution in technology and the military is already using it so why shouldn’t NASA. Yes the military uses a steel circle that rotates and they give the soldier a helmet and a fake gun, they power it up and he is in a virtual world with virtual enemies and allies. So all in all this is an amazing thing and it will be on the market in the next ten years

more activity= slower aging.... being lazy=getting older faster!

recently, specialists discovered, a big cause of premature death and fast aging.
they experimented with blood samples of some 2,400 twins after making experiments and proving them they got to the conclusion that the ones who exercised the most (an average of 199 minutes weekly) had in average a decade biologically younger than the "lazy ones"(which did 16 minutes or less a week).
The scientists speculate that stress, inflammation and oxidative stress (cell damage caused by oxygen exposure) may be responsible for aging faster in people that dont do exercise. Exercise is among the factors found to help alleviate stress (oviously helping aging). Previous research has linked regular workouts to lower rates of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, obesity and osteoporosis.
The researchers note that their findings support U.S. guidelines calling for individuals to exercise moderately for 30 minutes at least five days a week. "Our results. . . show that adults who partake in regular physical activity are biologically younger than sedentary individuals," they say. "This conclusion provides a powerful message that could be used by clinicians to promote the potential anti-aging effect of regular exercise."

my opinion:
I think this is very important and true because usually people that dont do exercise are more weak and get more diseases that people who do exercise. i think everyone should find time to do some exercise a day or maybe only resting the weekends because it helps getting rid of the stress, the fast aging, the diseases and after getting used to the sport it gets really fun and entretaining!! i think this article is very interesting and important and i agree that exersice is very important in everybodies life!

Mercury, As Never Seen Before

Mercury, As Never Seen Before

The article is about the Nasa's Messenger going to see mercury from a closer view, the trip was made on January 14.

This was really impresive, because not a lot of trips to the space go to "visit" Mercury. They were really, really close to the planet (that is the closest to the sun) and they were able to see the crater, and even though there was an expedition to this planet a long time ago, the sun iluminated another part of the planet, so when they went the last time they took pictures but were not able so see as good as this time, because of the light they could see different features from the planet that they didn't know before, they saw that the texture was different, they were able so see more about this planet.

They also saw that Caloris basin that is a crater in Mercury is one of the biggest from all the solar system. Other thing they saw is that in the atmosphere of Mercury that is really thin there is sodium, that is also in the Earth.

Other thing that the expedition did was the topographic measurements of this planet.

I think that is really interesting that people do this kind of expeditions, to know more about the other planets that are in the same solar system as our planet, because for me it's really interesting getting to know how all the planets are different and how they can have some similarities, and we just can know this if expeditions like this one are done, so I really like that they went there, and that they researched more about this planet, that not everyone know about because I think people talk more about planets like Mars, thinking if there is life there, or that water was found there, but how can we know about the other planets if there are no expeditions to research them, and I know it's difficult because of a lot of things, like just going out of our planet, and also because of the positions of the planets, that Mercury is the closer than any other planet to the sun so this makes it more difficult, but I really like all the research and pictures that was done.

Satellite may flail towards earth

I have always been interested about space, and was interested to read this article. I have read in many books that space junk is becoming a serious problem... I'd rather have junk in the middle of the universe than having it crash down on earth. It is actually very often that a satellite falls out of orbit and plunges towards earth but most of them burn up in the atmosphere. The debris that makes it through the atmosphere usually lands in a remote area and cause little or no harm. I thought that I knew a lot about space, but only through this article i learnt that the biggest satellite to fall to earth was named "Skylab" and was 78 tons. 78 tons is 70760.4097 kilograms and a heavyweight sumo wrestler only weighs 150kg +. I wonder why i have never heard of this before. It is probably because it happened in 1972 but still it is really interesting and i wish i knew about it earlier. What amazes me is that they already know about this incident and it is due to fall to earth in late February or early March. That is quite a long way away. My one last thought about this is, I hope it does not hit Stanstead Quebec.
