diet = fattening???

this article is about a new and really important discovery, scientists experimented and discovered that the "diet" products just like diet coke, fake "diet" sugar and others that contain artificial sweeteners actually damage more and make people gain more weight than if they where consuming natural products or products with natural sweeteners, this means that artificial sweeteners make it harder to control your weight!!!!!

how did they find out about this?
Psychologists at Purdue University's Ingestive Behavior Research Center report that nine rats given yogurt sweetened with no-cal saccharin (artificial) ended up eating more and gaining more weight and body fat than eight fellow rats given yogurt containing plain old glucose (natural) (a simple sugar with about 15 calories per teaspoon, the same as table sugar).

Study authors Susan Swithers and Terry Davidson speculate the reason is that the faux sweetener messes with the brain, fooling it into revving up the body's metabolism in anticipation of a never-to-come calorie load. ****"The data clearly indicate that consuming a food sweetened with no-calorie saccharin can lead to greater body-weight gain and a diposity [fat] than would consuming the same food sweetened with a higher-calorie sugar,"

my opinion
I think this article is very interesting and important. I think people should not believe everything the companies such as coke and other say, because sometimes they just say it to sell more. I also think that its always better for people to consume the most natural products we can and the least artificial (they have to many chemicals we are not aware of and some can damage us, and we don't even notice it, because we are not informed) I think this article is really important and interesting and people should pay more attention to what they are consuming and not believe 100% what commercials or companies tell us, and to always try to go for the less artificial option!!

  1. AHHH! What a scary idea! I wonder if scientists have been doing this research for a long time or if this is something they have just discovered? Do you think that it is possible to make a sugar sweetener that does not have these same psychological/physical effects?
